Individual Therapy

From children’s play therapy to adolescent specific interventions to adult and gerontology issues our clinicians are equipped to assist individuals with life’s struggles using developmentally appropriate and holistic approaches.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is often very beneficial at different key points or phases in a marriage. Pre-Marital counseling can help couples to get their marriage off to a strong start. Our therapists have training in all types of marital therapy.

Family Therapy

Family therapy may be utilized to further support parents and couples, or may be the main treatment modality if it is appropriate for the family. Our clinic uses the systems approach to help strengthen families.

Yoga For Children

Yoga is offered for EVERY child who attends therapy. Research shows a combination of yoga and therapy together results in longer lasting outcomes. Classes are:

  • Thursdays 5:30-6:00pm for ages 7 & under,
  • Thursdays 6:00-7:00pm for ages 8-12

Play Therapy - Children

We have over 50 years of combined experience working with young children, their parents, and their family members. The Journey Counseling Center is home to the Uintah Basin's only certified play therapist, who is also a certified supervisor for play therapy. Therapists at The Journey Counseling Center participate in annual specialized trainings focused on pediatric mental health treatment.

Trauma Healing

The Journey Counseling Center is a Trauma Informed program. We approach assessment and treatment from a lens of "what has happened to you" and "what are your life experiences" and "how is that now manifesting in symptoms" instead of from a medical model of "what's wrong with you."

The Journey Counseling Center has therapists who have trained with leading trauma experts like, Dr. Bruce Perry, Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk, and Gabriella Grant, to name a few. We have multiple therapists trained and/or certified in leading trauma treatment models such as EMDR, Neurofeedback, and TF-CBT as well as therapists who have completed the Utah Trauma Academy.

Domestic Violence

The Journey Counseling Center is a Department of Human Services licensed provider for Domestic Violence assessment and treatment in the State of Utah as is each individual therapist. Each therapist attends annual training on the latest treatment and approach to helping extinguish intimate partner violence in our community. We are active participants in our local DV Coalition, Women's Group MDT, and the High Risk Offender Task Force. We have close partnerships with our local victim's advocates, Friends Against Family Violence (FAFV), and our local Utah Domestic Violence representative.

The Journey Counseling Center has multiple therapists with specific education and training in nuero-biology, neuro-psychology, brain injuries, and neuro-development. We have counselors trained in the Neurosequential Development Model of approaching therapy and Neurofeedback. The Journey Counseling Center is also home to Michelle Smith, ACMHC who is an Acquired Brain Injury Certified, Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional.
