Individual Therapy

From children’s play therapy to adolescent specific interventions to adult and gerontology issues, our clinicians are equipped to assist individuals with life’s struggles using developmentally appropriate and holistic approaches.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is often very beneficial at different key points or phases in a marriage. Pre-Marital counseling can help couples to get their marriage off to a strong start. Our therapists have training in all types of marital therapy.

Family Therapy

Family therapy may be utilized to further support parents and couples, or may be the main treatment modality if it is appropriate for the family. Our clinic uses the systems approach to help strengthen families.

Play Therapy - Children

We have over 50 years of combined experience working with young children, their parents, and their family members. The Journey Counseling Center is home to the Uintah Basin's only certified play therapist, who is also a certified supervisor for play therapy. Therapists at The Journey Counseling Center participate in annual specialized trainings focused on pediatric mental health treatment.

Domestic Violence

The Journey Counseling Center is a Department of Human Services licensed provider for Domestic Violence assessment and treatment in the State of Utah as is each individual therapist. Each therapist attends annual training on the latest treatment and approach to helping extinguish intimate partner violence in our community. We are active participants in our local DV Coalition, Women's Group MDT, and the High Risk Offender Task Force. We have close partnerships with our local victim's advocates, Friends Against Family Violence (FAFV), and our local Utah Domestic Violence representative.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) addresses the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and families suffering from the destructive effects of early trauma. The treatment is particularly sensitive to the unique problems of youth with post-traumatiac stress and mood disorders resulting from sexual abuse, as well as from physical abuse, violence, or grief. We have multiple practitioners at The Journey Counseling Center that specialize in TF-CBT.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a type of non-invasive therapy that involves moving the eye in a specific way to help process past traumatic events. Instead of talking in depth about a distressing issue, EMDR involves changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors that result from a distressing experience to allow the brain to resume a natural healing process. Emdr has been shown to be most effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder but is always proven effective at treating a variety of other mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression.

ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidenced-based, rapid-eye-movement therapy for treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Research shows that the course of treatment averages between three and four sessions. At The Journey Counseling Center, we have multiple practitioners trained in ART to help the client more rapidly process trauma.

Neurofeedback

The Journey Counseling Center is home to Adrianna Potts, the only BCIA licensed nuerofeedback practitioner in the tri-county area. EEG Neurofeedback therapy is a noninvasive procedure that measures a patient’s brainwaves and provides real-time feedback about how the brain is functioning. The brain is then rewarded with visual and auditory cues to either reinforce or inhibit favorable or unfavorable brain wave patterns.

TOVA testing

The T.O.V.A. provides healthcare professionals with objective measurements of attention and inhibitory control. The visual T.O.V.A. aids in the assessment of, and evaluation of treatment for, attention deficits, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The auditory T.O.V.A. aids in the assessment of attention deficits, including ADHD. TOVA testing is not a stand-alone diagnostic tool, but can be used in conjunction with a mental health evaluation by a qualified clinician to determine attention deficits.

Medication Management

Many individuals benefit from a two-pronged approach to treating their mental health: combining therapy with medication. At the Journey Counseling Center, Spencer Stoddard is on site as our qualified psychiatric nurse practitioner who specializes in treating mental health conditions and works closerly with clients to find the best medication and treatment to assist their recovery.

Ketamine

Ketamine therapy is a treatment approach that uses low doses of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic medication, to manage treatment-resistant depression. Ideally ketamine is combined with counseling for optimal results. Ketamine is administered intravenously or intranasally under clinical supervision and many patients report substantial improvement in symptoms within a few days of treatment. Spencer Stoddard, PMHNP, offers ketamine therapy at The Journey Counseling Center.
